There are so many great ways to create extra decor pieces for July 4th and other patriotic holidays. Add a little extra fun to your home with buttons in red, white and blue to show off your American spirit. This 3 piece button art requires only a few supplies and is fairly quick and easy to create. I used many recycled pieces and scraps including buttons from a grab bag button pack which added to the variations of sizes and colors I had available.

I do recommend, however, that if you want to be sure you have enough red, white and blue buttons to get the project finished, grab yourself the All American button bonanza.

Materials:

  • Red, White and Blue buttons in various sizes
  • Small white frames
  • Re-purposed denim
  • Red, white and blue craft paint
  • 1/2″ coarse paint brush
  • Aleene’s tacky glue

How to make these patriotic button mini art pieces:

  1. Using a cross stroke, paint the backboard of each of the three frame with one of the three paint colors and let dry.
  2. Measure and cut denim at least 1/2″ smaller that inside of two of the frames. Pull side threads to fray fabric a bit. Paint one side of each fabric piece white with a dry, coarse brush. Let dry.
  3. Cut out a star from denim and glue on to center of white backboard frame. Glue various red and blue buttons in a square around the star.
  4. Glue denim in center of each red and blue frame. Glue one large button on each piece of denim.
  5. Let dry overnight. Display and enjoy.
