Tie-Dye Pajama Party with Rit and Buttons

A Party without buttons and bright colors, well that’s hardly a party to me!

IMG_6959

Several of the Buttons Galore Design Team members and myself participated in a “Pajama Party to DYE For” this week with some fantastic creative new friends from Rit Studio.  I created and brought the goody bags and, of course, added bright Laura Kelly Buttons to the elements in them. They ended up being a part of the party!  Here are a few pictures from the creations being made.

Yes, those are buttons on my tweezers and buttons on the mini journals.

I added buttons into jars too, just in case we wanted to use them at the party.

RIT_PJParty_PajamaFlower

Which we did.  I sewed a scrap flower from my dyed PJ remnants and added a button center.  The tearing of the fabric, sewing of the ribbon and adding the button took me about fifteen minutes!   I think it came our really cute and can’t wait to wear them!  It just goes to show, a party just isn’t complete with dye and buttons!  It was a BLAST and then more fun on top of that.

Happy Adding Buttons To Your Parties!

Patriotic Cards with Buttons

This month I’ll share several Patriotic Cards with Buttons. These would all be fun to do with the kids for friends and neighbors. Now that the kids are out of school, it’s fun to do crafts with them, right?

I’ve been creating several fun projects for an upcoming blog hop, the I LOVE THE USA Blog Hop. I had some embroidery thread left, and thought it would be fun to jazz up some buttons.

Patriotic Cards with Buttons

Supplies

  • Buttons – Laura Kelly Patriotic Mix
  • Neenah White #110 Cardstock (DiscountCardstock.com)
  • SRM Stickers
  • Ribbon – Michael’s
  • Embroidery Thread – Coats & Clark, Twine – Doodlebug Design
  • Tools – Scor-Board, Floss Threader
  • Adhesive – Hot Glue from Adtech, Redliner Tape

How to Create Patriotic Cards with Buttons

  1. Cut a piece of Neenah Solar White #110 4.25×11 and score in half. On the front of the card, score some additional lines above and below where you would like your ribbon placed.
  2. Adhere ribbon on card with Redliner Tape.
  3. Add stickers.
  4. Tie several strands of embroidery thread with twine to Patriotic buttons as shown below.  Trim ends.
  5. Hot Glue buttons to ribbon on card.

Sometimes creating the perfect party favor that equally serves as a decoration is simple to button up.  This project can be used to create color themes for birthdays, weddings, baby showers, etc…  Here is a really simple, quick and decorative way to create favors that are great for summertime.

AfterPromH20AdTech

Remove the label on the water bottle.   Using ad-tech’s hot glue, add a little message and a button or two from Laura Kelly’s bright collection of colors along with a ribbon tied in a bow and you have a bright, cheery favor that is sure to be a hit.

Scrap Paper & Button Gift Tag

Some times it is so much fun to create ways to use scrap paper and miscellaneous bright buttons.  This project is one that is worth “picking”, kind of like a pretty flower.

FlowerTag1

Materials for the scrap paper gift tag:

You will need scrap paper , Mod Podge (I used the washable kind for kids), a brush, black Sharpie marker, Laura Kelly buttons and ad-tech hot glue to create the flower.  You can buy a tag already to go or make one yourself.

Directions for the scrap paper gift tag:

Cut your paper into petals of any size and shape, whatever works for the tag size you are making.  Mine are about 2 inches long.  Cut another piece into a circle about an inch in diameter.  Using Mod Podge, brush a heavy coat on the circle then add the petals, brushing new layers of Mod Podge liberally between each petal.  Apply a final coat over the entire flower.  Set it aside to dry.  Cut a stem and leaves from your scraps and use the Mod Podge to apply them to your tag using the same technique.  Add the flower with Mod Podge and let it all dry.  To finish your project, use your ad-tech hot glue to apply several buttons in a stack in the center of the petals.  If you want to add the black decorations around the outside, you can’t beat the black Sharpie permanent marker.

There are lots and lots of ways to use these paper flowers to create masterpieces.  You can visit Laura’s blog to find more ideas if you have more than fifteen minutes to create!

Teacher Appreciation Gifts – Make Upcycled Button Rulers

Teacher Appreciation Gifts are pondered often in this house.  You want something they can use and need.  Being a former teacher I know it is not another apple themed gift.  Well, this quick, bright and happy project really measures up! Just in time for Teacher Appreciation Week.  With the loop on the end it is easy to hand and even easier to find.  The bright buttons really make a difference.

Upcycled Button Ruler

Materials Teacher Appreciation Gifts :

You will need a wooden ruler (or a yardstick), Laura Kelly colored buttons, a 6 inch piece of ribbon and HOT GLUE (My fave is Ad tech)!

How to make Teacher Appreciation Gifts:

While your hot glue gun is warming up, lay out your buttons in the pattern that you want to use in the length of the ruler.  You can stack them a bit if you like the depth.

One at a time, glue, the buttons to the ruler, straight down the middle so the numbers can still be read.

Once your button are securely adhered, create a loop with the ribbon and glue it to the back to create a way to hang it up.  If you want to cover the ribbon with more buttons, go for it.  I did.  :)

You can also line the ruler with ribbon first and then add buttons.  It makes cute Teacher Appreciation Gifts  too.
