Winter Hat Ornament

I love this little paper crafted winter hat ornament.  It would be great to use for decorating a tree or adding to a gift as a card or a tag.

Winter Hat Ornament 1

I created it using one of the new dies that will launch in January 2015 with Ellison Education and Sizzix as part of the calendar set.  Aren’t the little buttons from my Laura Kelly buttons line super cute on the ball of the hat?

There are lots of great projects being shared using this hat today and I would love for you to hop around and see them all.

Leapin Lizards Toy Bucket with Laura Kelly Pet Shop Dies from Sizzix

Boys will be boys and that means the little ones will probably collect “stuff”.  This pail has been transformed to an adorable “catch all” with a leapin lizards theme to match the cutest of little boy personalities.

Lizard Bucket Buttons Galore

It is easy to make.  I used the lizard from my newest collection of Sizzix dies – the Pet Shop collection.  I cut eight lizards out of fun decorative papers in greens and oranges.

Ellison Pet Shop

Then I used Collage Pauge from iLoveToCreate to adhere them to the pail.

Collage Pauge

I added a complete coat of the Collage Pauge over the whole bucket to add strength to the paper.

To finish it off, I added a wire twisted with buttons in Outrageous Orange and Candy Apple Green from my Laura Kelly collection and tied some ribbons on it.  I added it to the pail handle with a few twists.

Gift Packaging Idea

Completed Box 1 (1024x768)

Are you looking for a creative gift packaging idea? A fantastic gift packaging idea can be very important because the recipient often judges the inside of the gift packaging but what he/she sees on the outside!

I love buttons. I love to create with them and I love to give a little of my excess stash away as gifts. I have used mason jars, baby food jars and other containers to give a gift of buttons. Searching for yet other ways for gift packaging ideas, I ran across this cute sliding drawer box from Sizzix. Used with their Little Sizzles Matboard, the die creates a sturdy little box to present a gift of buttons.

Materials for gift packaging idea:

Sizzix Sliding Candy Jar Gift Box

Sizzix BigShot Die Cutting Machine

Sizzix Little Sizzles Matboard

Sizzix Bigz Die Tattered Florals

Susiebee Studios Patterned Papers

DecoArt Americana Acrylics in Tuscan Red and Boysenberry Pink

Beacon Adhesives Fast Finish Decoupage and Premium Tacky Glue

Buttons Galore and More Assorted Buttons

Sizzix products (768x1024)

To create this gift packaging idea, I used my Sizzix BigShot die cut machine to cut the box pieces from the matboard. There are visual instructions included with the die but the box was very easy to construct.

die cut peices and instructions (1024x768)

The matboard is great because it accepts paint very well. I painted this box using DecoArt’s Americana Acrylics in Tuscan Red.

I also cut patterned papers from SusieBee Studios to fit the sides and top of the box.

decoupage box (1024x734)

Patterned papers can be decoupaged using Fast Finish decoupage from Beacon Adhesives. I used a foam brush for this step. I chose to paint a blank craft shape from Buttons Galore and More in DecoArt’s Boysenberry Pink.

stamp blank craft shape (1024x768)After I painted my blank craft shape, I sanded it to lightly distress and stamped buttons with Clearsnap’s Colorbox pigment ink.

felt flower die cut with button (1024x768)I topped off my die cut button box with a die cut felt flower with a button sewn in the center.

button feet (1024x768)Create these little cute button feet for your box by stacking buttons together starting with the largest on the bottom and working towards the top with the smaller buttons. Getting the button feet to be even can be tricky but well worth the effort!

completed box 3 (1024x768)Glue the button feet to the bottom corners of the box. Super cute gift packaging idea! Especially when filled with buttons.

completed box 4 (1024x768)

Hope this inspires you to create your own creative gift packaging version of this die cut button box.

Quick and Easy Place Cards Ideas

Quick and easy place cards ideas!

Do you need place cards for your next event? Create some with just buttons and paper. Here are some quick and easy place cards ideas.

Quick and Easy Place Cards Ideas

These are easy to create.

I’ve cut my cards 3X3″ and folded them in half. The image below shows how the easy grass border is made and attached. This month we’re lucky enough to be playing with Fiskars products, so of course I used my Fiskars orange handled scissors. Thanks, Fiskars!

The cloud is a die cut that I inked. To finish off these quick and easy place cards, just add stickers. I love these adorable, chunky butterflies from Buttons Galore’s Butterfly Kisses Collection. I like to use Beacon’s 3-1 glue to make sure they stay put. Buttons Galore has several kinds of adhesive to offer in their Adhesives section.

Sunday Cardmaking: Create an Easy Ombre Easter Card

Let’s Create an EASY Ombre Easter Card. Ombre is a Spanish word that simply means graduated colors. I really wanted to make a simple, sweet Easter card, and I did not want to use traditional colors. These blues are calm and happy to me. I like the tone on tone bunnies on the blue strips, and the bunnies and button eggs add a little bit of fun. I used a paint sample as my inspiration. This simple construction allows you to make a lot of cards, without a lot of work.

Easter Card

Material used to create an EASY Ombre Easter card:

Buttons Galore Product used:

I also used:

  • Dies – Quickutz
  • Embossing Folder – Sizzix
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Dimensional Adhesive

Directions for making the EASY Ombre Easter Card:

  1. Create a 5×7″ card base.
  2. Cut four pieces of graduated blue cardstock 4 3/4 x 1.5″ and emboss. Place on card, leaving room in between each strip. Adhere to card base.
  3. Die cut four bunnies from same graduated card stock. Adhere to graduated blue rectangles with dimensional adhesive.
  4. Add buttons.

I hope you enjoyed this Ombre Easter card. When I’m making a lot of cards, I love to do something simple, but different. You can get a lot of strips out of each piece of blue card stock, and cut all your bunnies out of the scraps. When my kids were little we used to have their friends over and make fun cards for friends and family.

Thanks for stopping by.
