School just started for my kids so we’ve been busy buying supplies and getting ready for the upcoming year.I decided to have some fun and add a little personalization to some of our school supplies using buttons. Here’s an easy way to add button embellishments to a make a cute pencil bag. You can add any kind of flat back button and create any kind of pattern or design for your own personal touch.
Materials you need:
- Cloth/fabric pencil bag
- Permanent fabric glue
- Painter’s tape
- Buttons, various colors and sizes
How to decorate your own pencil bag:
Layout your button design on your pencil holder, make sure to place everything right where you’d like it to be but do not glue it.
Lay overlapping strips of painter’s tape over your design, pressing firmly.
Lift up the tape with the buttons attached and flip over to expose the buttons.
Cover the buttons with fabric glue. Follow glue instructions for adhering to fabric.
Place buttons and tape, glue side down, on the pencil holder. Press firmly. Let dry overnight.
Carefully remove tape. We used a popsicle stick to help prevent buttons from pulling off fabric with tape.
