Thank You Easter Bunny

For my first blog post here on Buttons Galore… I chose my new obsession. Art quilting. I can eat, sleep and breathe it (and I used to be a paper girl ). It’s fun to go out of your comfort zone to test your creativity and try something new! Give it a try.

I started with a plain piece of canvas and ripped the edges to make it all shaggy. Then I drew the design on – if you feel like you aren’t up to drawing this; try finding a design you like from a children’s book or a coloring book, place it under the canvas and use a light box to trace it onto the canvas. It’s easy as pie!

Once you have your design all drawn on with a fabric pen, iron it. That heat sets it and it won’t come off. Next, color in all the parts you want colored. I used regular old watercolor for the bunny, clouds and stars. This piece won’t get washed so water color is fine to use. Lastly, i colored the lettering with fabric markers and heat set again.

Lay out your buttons and cut up scraps of fabric for the flowers and the grass before you sew. I did sew the flowers and the buttons on last, after I quilted with my free motion foot on my sewing machine around the stars, clouds, moon and buuny. I also did some crazy sewing for the grass and flower stems.

Here is the top of my funy bunny peeking out and below is my little bunny in his flower garden of button flowers. I used the Clear Flower Spring buttons and their Antique Painted Brads for some of the centers.

I love the look of the brads as little flowers and the clear flower buttons make great centers for the fabric flowers. When you are all done, use a cute little hanger and hang it up with your carrots and juice to tell the Easter Bunny thank you for all the chocolate eggs that he will leave in your basket this Easter!
