Mini Button Art

I love buttons and don’t want to just hide them in a box somewhere.  I showcase some of my favorite buttons by creating little pieces of art.  This is a super quick project that is great for a beginner button fan!

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Using your frame as a guide, cut a piece of felt to the size of the frame insert.
  2. Choose your buttons and decide on a lay-out.  Do you want one very special button to be the focal point?  Do you want to sprinkle them throughout the frame?  Turn them into flowers?  The possibilities are endless and the design can be as simple or intricate as you want it to be!
  3. Once you have a design figured out, sew your buttons into place.  If you want to add felt embellishments, sew those down too!  If you like to embroider, add some french knots or some of your other favorite stitches to the design.  (There are a ton of tutorials for embroidery stitches out there.  I personally prefer to search for video tutorials as I’ve found these to be the easiest way for me to learn the stitch.)  Remember, this is your artwork and should be stress-free so if you don’t want to sew, just glue those lovely buttons down!
  4. Once your design is completed, load your embellished felt piece into your frame and you are done!  This is a super quick project.  Some of my designs only took me five minutes to make!  They make wonderful gifts or you can make a few and style yourself a unique display for your home.

Love those projects. did the button have the rays outward on the yellow one or did you paint the rays on? Makes me want to get out all my “stuff” and get busy. Would be cute gift for a baby’s room or small child also. Make it towards whether a boy or girl. How creative.

    JaneEllen,

I didn’t alter the buttons at all. The detailing on the yellow button was already there. Glad you liked the project.
