Button Birdhouse

This is a quick and easy project to do with your children, but you could also do a few for yourself too.  Match the button colors to your decor and you’ll have a striking piece of art for your home.

Supplies:

  • Unfinished wood birdhouse
  • Paint: Roof color: Delta Ceramcoat in Sea Foam.  House color: Delta Ceramcoat in Deep Sea Coral.  These colors match the Citrus Splash buttons perfectly!
  • Buttons (Item #GB126: Citrus Splash)
  • Glue

Instructions:

1.  Paint birdhouse.

2.  Once the paint is dry, glue the buttons onto the roof in a scattered pattern.  You may also want to embellish the front of the birdhouse with buttons.  My daughter added some number plates she found in my studio to put on the birdhouse so that the birds could have an address to help them remember where their house is. You could also form address numbers with some small buttons. Cute!

3. Let the glue dry and you are done!

I told you it was simple!  If you wanted this to be an outdoor decoration, you may want to spray a protective coating over the project to give it some protection from the elements.  Last summer, my daughter and I painted birdhouses, purchased a bird feeder and created a “bird sanctuary” in our backyard.  We even had sketch books so we could document the birds that came to visit us.

Remember!  Buttons are a choking hazard.  Please make sure there is adult supervision when doing button projects with your children.
